Haig On The Park

42 Haig Street, South Toowoomba, Queensland

Haig On The Park is a boutique community of four sustainable homes on an inner-city site in South Toowoomba, delivered end to end and built by Weston Building Group over a ten-month program. Every home sold prior to completion, to owner-occupiers only.

The brief was a low-maintenance home that lives large without a big energy bill, aimed squarely at downsizers and owner-occupiers who wanted less house to look after and more comfort while they were in it.

Design & sustainability

Each 109m² home carries an average 7.5-star NatHERS rating (individual homes 7.3–7.8), roughly 30% less energy to heat and cool than a standard 6-star build. That comes from a due-north aspect through the living, dining and alfresco, a 6.4kW solar system per home, double insulation to ceilings and walls, LowE clear smart glazing, and window positioning tuned for cross-breeze so the homes stay comfortable without leaning on air-conditioning.

Inside, open-plan living and dining with a study nook, stone benchtops and Westinghouse appliances, a master suite with walk-in robe and ensuite, a second bedroom with built-in robe, and a second bathroom with separate toilet. Outside, a private fenced courtyard, a large alfresco, two car spaces per home, and shared gardens with two communal vegetable plots and compost hubs behind a gatehouse entrance.
